North Dakota heartbeat law bans abortion at six weeks
Sponsored by Reps. Grande, Brabrandt, et al., and signed into law in 2013 by Gov. Jack Dalrymple, HB1456 states that “an individual may not perform an abortion on a pregnant woman before determining, in accordance with standard medical practice, if the unborn child the pregnant woman is carrying has a detectable heartbeat.” Abortionists who violate the law will be guilty of a class C felony. Exception includes an abortion to save the life of the mother.
