Indiana gets most expansive school voucher system in nation
Sponsored by Representatives Robert William Behning and Brian C. Bosma, and signed into law in 2011 by Gov. Mitch Daniels (and expanded in 2013 by Gov. Mike Pence), HB1003 sets up one of the most expansive school voucher systems in the United States. HB 1003 provides tuition vouchers for students to attend private or parochial schools of their choice. Under the expanded HB1003 passed into law in 2013, a family of four earning $65,352 receives 50% funding towards tuition; the same family earning $43,568 receives 90% paid tuition. A family of eight earning 109,974 receives 50% funding towards tuition; that same family earning $73,316 receives 90% paid tuition.
