South Carolina passes Religious Viewpoints Antidiscrimination Act for students

Sponsored by Sens. Martin, Verdin, et al, and signed into law by Gov. Nikki Haley, S0134 (the Religious Viewpoints Antidiscrimination Act – Act No.180) prohibits a school district from discriminating against a student based on religious viewpoint, allows a student to express his religious viewpoint, allows a student to express religious beliefs in homework and classroom assignments without penalty or reward, and allows students to organize and participate in religious student gatherings to the same extent as secular noncurricular groups.

Tennessee bans foreign law from use in state courts

Bill: SB3740/HB3768 (Public Chapter No.983) (PDF)

Co-sponsored by Sens. Tracy and Gresham and sponsored by Rep. Dennis, and signed into law by the governor, Public Chapter No. 983 (SB3740/HB3768) establishes certain public policies in regard to the application of foreign laws, legal codes and systems to protect constitutional rights of citizens of Tennessee. Commonly known as “American Law for American Courts” legislation, this law prevents Tennessee courts from applying foreign laws in U.S. cases.

Arizona prohibits CO2 regulations by state and regional programs:

Bill: HB 2442 (PDF)

Sponsored by Rep. Judy Burges, Sen. Frank Antenori, et al and signed into law by Gov. Jan Brewer, HB2442 prohibits an Arizona state agency from adopting or enforcing a state or regional program to regulate greenhouse gas emissions without express legislative authorization.

Burges states: “HB 2442, signed into law, limits the implementation of regional Environmental Protection Agency programs without going through the legislative process. HB 2442 was critical because implementation of a cap-and-trade program on carbon emissions could cost Arizona 124,000 jobs, $14.7 billion in lost revenues, and fuel and utilities increases of 27 percent and 50 percent, respectively. Arizonans cannot afford these costs.”

Utah law blocks Obamacare mandate:

Bill: HB 67

Sponsored by Rep. Carl Wimmer and signed into law by Gov. Gary Herbert, HB67 prohibits a state agency or department from implementing federal health care reform passed by the United States Congress after March 1, 2010, unless a state agency reports to the Legislature regarding costs and impact on state reform efforts. HB67 adds: “The Legislature may pass legislation specifically authorizing or prohibiting the state’s compliance with, or participation in, federal health care reform.”

Oklahoma voters ban Obamacare in state:

Bill: State Question 756 (SJR59)

Constitutional amendment prohibiting forced participation in federal health care system. To preserve the freedom of Oklahomans to provide for their health care, a law or rule shall not compel, directly or indirectly, any person, employer or health care provider to participate in any health care system; and a person or employer may pay directly for lawful health care services and shall not be required to pay penalties or fines for paying directly for lawful health care services.

Arizona Prop 106 bans Obamacare in state:

Bill: Proposition 106 (HCR 2014)

A “yes” vote shall have the effect of prohibiting the enactment of laws or rules that require any person, employer or health care provider to participate in any health care system. It will also allow a person or employer to forgo health insurance and pay for health care services directly without a penalty and will allow health care providers to accept direct payment without a penalty. It will specifically allow health insurance in private health care systems.
A “no” vote shall have the effect of retaining the current law regarding a person or entity’s health care choices.

Arizona ends affirmative action

Bill: Prop 107 (HCR 2019)

A legislatively-referred constitutional amendment approved by nearly 60% of voters in 2010, Prop107 (The Arizona Civil Rights Amendment) says that “A ‘yes’ vote shall have the effect of prohibiting the State of Arizona from giving preferential treatment to or discriminating against any person or group on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity or national origin. The prohibition applies to preferences or discrimination in public employment, education or contracting.”

Arizona gets Border Security, Federalism and States’ Sovereignty Committee

Established in 2010 by Senate President Russell Pearce, Arizona’s Border Security, Federalism and State Sovereignty Committee is a seven-member Senate Standing Committee that meets to evaluate state-federal issues and propose 10th-Amendment-oriented legislation to protect and preserve the sovereignty of the State of Arizona. In Arizona, the Senate president and speaker of the House decide which committees the Legislature will have and who will lead those committees.

Bill: HB 2732

“A requirement that a pupil not be promoted from the third grade if the pupil obtains a score on the reading portion of the Arizona instrument to measure standards test, or a successor test, that demonstrates that the pupil’s reading falls fare below the third grade level.”

Arizona bans union ‘card check’ elections

Bill: SCR 1001 (Ballot Proposition 113 – Save Our Secret Ballot Amendment)

Approved by 60% of Arizona voters, Prop 113 states that “the right to vote by secret ballot for employee representation is fundamental and shall be guaranteed where local, state or federal law permits or requires elections, designations or authorizations for employee representation.”

Missourians ban Obamacare at ballot box

Sponsored in the Missouri Senate by Sen. Jane Cunningham and Sen. Gary Nodler, and passed into law via the August 3, 2010, ballot, the Missouri Health Care Freedom Act (Proposition C) asked whether Missouri statutes should be amended to “deny the government authority to penalize citizens for refusing to purchase private health insurance or infringe upon the right to offer or accept direct payment for lawful health care services.” With over 70 percent approval by voters, Proposition C also mandates that “no law or rule shall compel, directly or indirectly, any person, employer, or health care provider to participate in any health care system.”

Arizona cracking down on child prostitution

Bill: HB 2238

Passed into law by Gov. Jan Brewer, HB2238 makes various changes to statute involving indecent exposure, public sexual indecency, dangerous crimes against children, child prostitution and sexually violent persons. Engaging in sex with minor is a felony and results in jail time.

Florida schools have full religious freedom:

Bill: HB31

District school boards, administrative personnel, and instructional personnel are prohibited from discouraging or inhibiting the delivery of an inspirational message at a noncompulsory high school activity, including, but not limited to, a student assembly, a sports event, or other noncompulsory school-related activity, if the participating students request and initiate the delivery of such inspirational message.
